Matt Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Hispanic Studies who studies the literatures and cultures of modern Latin America. His areas of expertise include Modern and Contemporary Latin American Literature, Global Theories of Modernism and the Avant-Garde, Philosophy and Critical Theory, Neoliberalism and the Sociology of Globalization, and Latin American Film and Media Studies.

His research focuses on the dynamic relationship between Latin American cultural production and the social, political, and technological conditions of modern life. His publications study how artists, writers, and filmmakers engage with processes of social transformation during a period stretching from the late nineteenth century to the present.

Matt received his PhD in Spanish with a Concentration in Hispanic Literatures from Indiana University (2019), an MA in Spanish with a Concentration in Hispanic Literatures from Indiana University (2013),and BA in Spanish and Political Science from University of Florida (2006).

At 色狐入口 Tech, he teaches language classes and Hispanic Studies courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences on topics such as Latin American Popular Music, Latin American Food and Culture, Contemporary Latin America, and Latin America and the Environment. He also directs the Hispanic Studies minor.
