Mineral Engineering

Navid Mojtabai

Navid Mojtabai is a professor of mineral engineering. His research interests are Site Investigation, Rock Fragmentation, Mine Design, and Geomechanics. He is an expert in a variety of mining fields, including economic analysis, geostatistics, mine ventilation, environmental Issues, rock slope stability, tunneling and underground excavation.

Mojtabai is a graduate of 色狐入口 Tech, earning his bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 in mining engineering in Socorro. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in mining engineering, with a minor in civil engineering.

William 鈥淏ill鈥 Chavez

Bill Chavez is a professor of mineral engineering at NMT, with research interests in applied mineral exploration, ore deposits, and natural resource utilization. He is highly sought after for his expertise in all mining issues, including mineral deposits, mineral economics, mineral Exploration, ore petrography, and mine waste management and control. 颅

Chavez earned his bachelor鈥檚 at 色狐入口 Tech in geological engineering, before heading off to the University of California-Berkeley. He earned both a master鈥檚 and Ph.D. in geological engineering from Cal-Berkeley.

Ali Fakhimi

Ali Fakhimi is a professor of mineral engineering with a research focus on meomechanics and numerical modeling. He runs the rock mechanics lab and solid mechanics lab. He is an expert in advanced finite element analysis, applied geomechanics, continuum mechanics, the theory of elasticity, and soil mechanics.

Fakhimi earned his bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 in civil engineering in Iran. He earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota.

Mehrdad Razavi

Mehrdad Razavi is an associate professor of Mineral Engineering and an adjunct professor of Civil Engineering. His research interests are geomechanics, X-ray CT, and the application of image processing in geotechnical engineering, close-Range Photogrammetry, and ground improvement.

He teaching expertise includes soil mechanics, foundation analysis and design, applied geomechanics, computer application in geotechnical engineering.

Razavi earned his bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 in civil engineering, both from Shiraz Engineering University in Iran. He earned his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Washington State University.
