The 色狐入口 Tech Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering offers three
options for students interested Master鈥檚 degrees: 1) Master of Science in Materials
Engineering requiring a Thesis; 2) Master of Engineering requiring only course work;
and 3) a combined BS/MS degree.
The Materials Engineering Department administers both the Master of Science and the
Master of Engineering degree for those students wishing to pursue an advanced degree
in Materials Engineering. The Master of Science degree must be earned with a thesis.
The Master of Engineering degree is a coursework-only option for students seeking
a non-researchbased advanced degree focused on satisfying the needs of practicing
engineers.
Accelerated BS/MS Materials Engineering Program
Program Requirements
The combined degrees of a MS in Materials Engineering along with a BS in Materials
Engineering or affiliated field may be achieved in less time by beginning the MS during
the final year of the BS degree..

Students will be able to:
1. Critically assess the literature. 2. Effectively engage in written dissemination of technical findings and conclusions
3. Effectively engage in oral dissemination of technical findings and conclusions
4. Demonstrate a breadth of knowledge in Materials Engineering. 5. Find professional employment shortly after graduation.
Master of Science (with Thesis)
The Master of Science prepares students for high quality research (and is often preferred
for admission into PhD programs around the country).
General Requirements
Full time graduate students must formalize an advisory committee that will consist
of an academic advisor from the department and at least two additional members. The
selection of an advisor must be completed by the end of the first semester while the

Master of Engineering (Course Work Only)
The ME in Materials Engineering is professionally-oriented, focused on satisfying
the needs of practicing engineers in a materials-related discipline.
Highlights
Coursework only option for students seeking an advanced degree.
Begin taking courses for ME while completing BS in Materials Engineering or related
field
Degree possible through distance delivery while professionally employed.
NMT students apply for admission in Fall of Senior year with decision before end of
Fall semester.
Courses used to complete BS will not be counted towards ME.
Students with a non-Materials Engineering background may require additional Materials-related
coursework.
NMT students with a BS in Materials Engineering and GPA >=3.0 may anticipate acceptance
with a completed application.
